【Review】Bone Conduction Headphones ‘OpenRun Pro 2’
Regular earphones? Never again.
I’ve been curious about bone conduction headphones for a while, and I finally got to try what many say is the best in the game — the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2.
After using it for about 10 days, I can confidently say: This is it! It’s exactly what I was looking for. No exaggeration — it’s perfect.
As someone who constantly loses one side of my wireless earbuds, I’ve always wished I could just buy a single replacement. But nope — you usually have to buy a whole new set. That’s why I started looking for something wireless but connected, with a built-in charger — and ended up discovering bone conduction headphones.
Cheap ones on Amazon made me question if bone conduction even worked. But the OpenRun Pro 2, released last year, is the real deal. No surprise — Shokz (formerly AfterShokz) is the leader in this space. Of course they weren’t going to disappoint.
So, let’s dive into my full review of the ultimate bone conduction headphones: the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2.
What Are Bone Conduction Headphones?
Before we start, let me briefly explain for those unfamiliar with bone conduction headphones.
Bone conduction headphones are devices that transmit sound using completely different technology from conventional earphones. Instead of going through the ear canal or eardrum, they vibrate the bones around your ears to transmit sound.
This means you can listen to music without blocking your ears, so you can quickly detect danger during running, cycling, and other situations where you need to be sensitive to external sounds.
Additionally, the ability to have conversations with people around you while listening to music is a huge advantage. You can avoid situations where you say “Sorry, I didn’t hear you talking to me.”
And this is something I really want to emphasize: your ears won’t hurt even after wearing them for a long time! Because they don’t go in your ears.
‘SHOKZ New OpenRun Pro 2’ Review
The review product is SHOKZ’s high-end bone conduction headphones ‘New OpenRun Pro 2’. This is a model specialized for fitness activities like running, cycling, and working out.
Compared to the lower model ‘OPENRUN Pro’, the sound quality, battery life, and charging speed have all been improved, so I can strongly recommend it to anyone looking for “the best bone conduction headphones.”

Real Usage Experience
As someone who’s been really into cycling lately, I’ve been using this product every single day. Let me break down my honest review by category.
Sound Quality
Thanks to the 10th Generation Bone Conduction Technology DualPitch™ Technology, the bass is deep and rich. While I couldn’t directly compare it to previous models, it’s incomparable to the cheap products I tried at discount stores!
It feels like mid-bass is transmitted more strongly than mid-treble. If you want to emphasize the high frequencies more, you can use vocal mode in the dedicated app.
By the way, if you turn the volume up too high, the vibration is strong enough to touch your face, but you’d rarely need to use it that loud. 😂
Comfort
This is perfect too. Lightweight, no pressure at all, and they don’t slip off even when you shake your head. You could say they’re 100% designed for fitness. You forget you’re wearing them.
Bluetooth Connectivity
Once you pair them once, they automatically connect as soon as you turn them on. They’ve never failed to connect.
Battery level is also announced by voice (e.g., “50% battery remaining”).
Sound Leakage
If you set the volume to 40-50%, people around you can barely hear anything. Even in a quiet indoor environment, unless someone is very sensitive, there shouldn’t be any concerns.
Good Points

- Excellent sound quality. Rich bass too.
- Incredibly lightweight! You forget you’re wearing them.
- Up to 10 hours playback, battery efficiency is also excellent.
- 5-minute fast charge = 1.5 hours of use → Really useful.
- IP55 water/dust resistance, no worries about sweating.
- Multipoint pairing, can connect to 2 devices simultaneously → Can use both personal and work devices.
- It charges via USB-C!
Drawback
- Rear Band Interference (Biggest drawback)
The wraparound band design can be inconvenient in certain situations. For instance, when you’re on the subway or bus, the band may press against the headrest. It can also feel uncomfortable when wearing hoodies or jackets with high collars. - Limited Water Resistance
The IP55 rating provides decent protection against sweat and light rain, making it suitable for most outdoor activities. However, it’s not fully waterproof—so it’s not ideal for swimming, showering, or using in saunas. Users looking for complete water protection might find this limiting. - Price Point
Compared to typical wireless earbuds, the OpenRun Pro 2 is relatively expensive. The higher price might be a concern for budget-conscious buyers.
Overall Assessment
While the immersive sound of regular in-ear headphones is great, the experience of listening to music with my ears open was truly eye-opening for me. I found this style much more enjoyable—especially because it doesn’t put any pressure on my ears, so there’s no discomfort at all.
What I love the most is that I can wear it around my neck at all times, which means I never have to worry about losing it. For me, that convenience easily outweighs all the drawbacks I mentioned earlier.
I highly recommend trying this unique listening experience for yourself.
(Just keep in mind—there’s a huge difference compared to cheaper bone conduction models.)
